Biography and Booking Information

Jonathan Wilkins

Biography

For the past seven years, Jonathan Wilkins has been playing shows throughout the Midwest and South. The St. Louis native came to Conway, Arkansas in 2001 to attend Hendrix College.

He developed his sound playing in several St. Louis bands, and with his solo act, immediately found his niche among Arkansas musicians like Gut Feeling, the Arkitects, and ex-Auntie M singer/bassist, Mat Mahar. Jonathan has played shows and shared bills with Lucero, Cory Branan, Backyard Tire Fire, Kimya Dawson (of moldy peaches fame), Spookie Daly Pride, Texas natives Graham Wilkinson and Hayes Carll, and Missouri's Madahoochi, Joe Stickley's Blue Print, and Bockman.

The house party taught him how to stand on his own to feet and the dive bar taught him how to love whiskey like an ex-wife. His audience includes hip-hop heads, punks, rock 'n rollers, along with fans of roots and folk music. His songs contain strong social commentary and his incredibly personal lyrics are smart, subtle, tactless, and beautiful.

At times, his intense percussive-style of guitar playing and his gritty vibrato voice make his songs like "Propulsion," "Cut My Head Off," and "Minority Identity Development" sound at times like political anthems and at others like love-sick howls.

With the addition of his best friends and bandmates from St. Louis, The Dissenters, Jonathan takes his books, boots, and booze, and mixes it with machine guns and electric guitars taking dead eyes on the rich kids. But even with an intimate solo show, Jonathan still wants you to walk away with a big GOD DAMN!
